More about Crooks Suzuki

What gives you the biggest buzz at work?

Selling a customer a motorcycle. It's great to help people live their dream.

Also we sell many parts for older Suzukis from the 60s and 70s, it's nice to help them restore their bike to it's former glory.

History

Our business was started by my parents, Eddie & Pauline Crooks in December 1959 (two years before I was born).

Dad was a successful road racer during the 1950's and in September 1959 he won the Senior Manx Grand Prix on one of Reg Dearden's 500cc Manx Nortons. When he retired from racing he started his own motorcycle business and one of the first Suzuki dealers in the UK; Eddie Crooks Motorcycles at 53 Crellin Street, Barrow-in-Furness.

Q & A with Martin Crooks

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST MOTORCYCLE?

A: My first motorcycle was an Italjet 50cc Auto Kids Off Road bike, It was quite unusual for young children to be riding motorcycles back in the early 70's, so the Evening Mail ran a feature on the biking family, the BBC even sent a film crew up to film us, we were on Look North West, I remember thinking I was like a film star!
