Following last year’s victory and 3 rd
place finish at the great 8, MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB entered two teams in to the 8 hour long endurance race at Hannington in Hampshire to defend their title.
Jason Wildman & Carl Bunce were riding bike #1 and Sam Barrett & Scott Linley #3.
The track was in excellent condition and patches of sunshine made it a great day for all.
Jason and Carl were using only 1 quad, although they were allowed to use 2. they used the same Suzuki LT-R450 that was used in their 5 th
place finish as Pont de Vaux the week before (visit the Racing News page for more details on this). The LT-R450 was raced hard for 12 hours 2 hours for practice/qualifying, it returned from Pont de Vaux, MKM Rocketman Suzuki team mechanic, Jason Smith changed the engine oil & filter, rear brake pads, cleaned the air filter and gave it a general check over and clean up, ready to endure another 8 hours of punishment. Jason started the race with the ‘le mans’ style start, and lead the race from the start, the due maintained the lead throughout to win by a clear lap, with no problems to the LT-R what so ever.
The junior team, Sam & Scott also rode consistently well to finish in 3 rd place overall and subsequently winning the U21 class.
Competing in the Ironman class, battling the whole 8 hours on his own was another young, up and coming MKM Rocketman Suzuki rider, Laurence Stopps. Laurence also rode consistently well for the duration and finished 7 th in his class.
Jason Wildman commented “It was a fantastic event, the Suzuki LT-R450 was on top form, to lead the race from start to finish is a great achievement, Carl was also in great form on the track, however I feel he let me down in the Great 8 pint’s of beer challenge at the presentation after the race”
Unfortunately, Carl was unavailable to make any comprehendible comments.
