MKM AND LT-R450 TAKE QRA CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

Mon 02 November 2009

Team MKM Rocketman Suzuki rider, Liam Ryland, has been crowned as the 2009 QRA Expert class champion after a phenomenal rookie season taking four wins in five rounds.

Despite missing the final race with a broken wrist from Weston Beach Race, the young racer's impressive riding in the previous five rounds, never finishing off the podium, meant Ryland had already secured the Expert class championship win.

The rest of the MKM team finished their 2009 QRA Quad Cross Country campaign on another high, taking the race win in the Clubman class with all other team riders claiming podium finishes in their respective classes.

The top result at the final round in Cosford, near Rugby came from Sam Barrett who blasted his Suzuki LT-R450 around the all-new enduro course, taking the Clubman class win in the 3-hour race. This great last round result pulled Barrett up to 4th position overall in the final championship standings.

To add to the achievement Sam Barrett helped to set a new quad racing record, with father, Anthony Barrett, finishing just behind him in 2nd position, they scored the first ever son and father, 1st and 2nd in the championship's history.

Consistent top-finisher Jason Wildman didn't disappoint as he grasped a 2nd position finish in the Pro class. Strong performances throughout the season meant Wildman finished the championship in the runner-up spot.

In the Stock class, rookie rider Scott Linley put in another terrific performance. Working his QuadRacer 450 hard around the damp, slippery track, meant Linley was rewarded with 2nd position at round six and 3rd place overall for his rookie campaign.

Team Manager, Ant Deacon, summed up the team's efforts: "It was great to finish the season on such a high, the whole team has done a fantastic job and we've proved that we have the set-up and ability to run at the front throughout the year. Liam winning the Expert class in his first season proves what a talented young rider he is, definitely one to look out for in the Pro class next year."

Round 6 results:
Pro class: 1st Paul Winrow, 2nd Jason Wildman, 3rd David Baldwin
Clubman class: 1st Sam Barrett, 2nd Anthony Barrett, 3rd Beverley Barnes
Stock class: 1st Andy Mellor, 2nd Scott Linley, 3rd Moose Pittaway

QRA Quad Cross Country Championship final standings:
