BUNCE CLAIMS TOP FIVE FINISH AT CULHAM

Thu 25 June 2009

Team Anderson ATV Suzuki travelled down to Culham, Oxfordshire for round six of the ACU British MMX Championship at the weekend. Carl Bunce scored the best result with a 5th place finish in race one, onboard his QuadRacer LT-R450.

Mark Watson returned for his first race since he suffered an injury at round four. An extremely impressive qualifying session saw Watson post the second quickest lap time on his race-prepared LT-R450, with team mate Bunce not far off the pace with the fourth quickest time.

Race one saw promising starts from both riders with Bunce running in 3rd and Watson in 6th. Due to the muddy conditions from the freshly watered track, Watson struggled and dropped back to 16th place by the end of the race.

Meanwhile Bunce was mixed up in a battle involving the top five riders, an unfortunate last lap saw two riders squeeze past, but an excellent overall race rewarded Carl with 5th.

Race two, and with a completely dried out track, the harsh conditions proved too much for Watson’s recent injury, forcing him to drop out in the early stages of the race. Carl Bunce suffered an unfortunate electrical issue on the start line, which meant joining the race half a lap behind.

Some of the most determined riding ever seen from Bunce saw him quickly catch up and slice his way through the field at a pace quicker than the front-runners. This meant he made his way from last up to 11th position before the chequered flag, ensuring some points with 8th position overall.

Team Manager Paul Anderson commented, “It was a mixed weekend for the team, our qualifying session looked promising but then a couple of minor problems held us up, and with Mark still injured it was best for him to play it safe. Bunce showed some excellent riding that proves we can run at the front, we’re looking forward to the next round.”

Team Anderson ATV Suzuki are back in action at Dean Moor, Cumbria on 19th July.

Round 6 overall results
