This weekend Carl Bunce and Mark Watson of Team Anderson ATV both achieved top ten positions at round 6 of the ACU British MMX Quad Championship at Blaxhall Pits, nr Woodbridge.
Bunce, onboard his Suzuki LT-R450, who qualified in 4th got a good start in the first race and managed to hold this position throughout the 14 laps. Watson, also on the LT-R450, started on the grid in 9th but had moved up to 7th by the end of lap one. After 10 laps Watson was in 5th sitting behind his team-mate where he stayed until the chequered flag.
In race two, Watson had another good start and had worked his way up the pack into 4th by the end of lap one and into 3rd by lap four. Watson then spent the next 9 laps battling with Maessen over 3rd. Unfortunately a rut at the end of the final lap toppled Watson, however, a swift remount meant he still managed a 5th for the second race and 6th overall.
Bunce did not have as good a start as his team-mate in the second race, sitting in 7th for the first two laps. Not letting the rough track hold him back, he had climbed to 5th in lap seven, hotly on the tail of Watson. An accident in lap ten involving the back marker caused Bunce to drop 3 places to 8th. Bunce however, managed to make up two places in the last four laps crossing the finish line in 6th. This combined with his 4th place in race one placed him 5th overall for the day.
Watson commented, “That was a rough track. I think I should have stiffened the suspension a bit as the track started to take its toll on me towards the end. I’m pleased with my results today though and can take a lot away for the next race”.
Team manager Paul Anderson commented, “I’m really pleased with the guys today. They both had mishaps in the second race that cost them a few places but they both managed to move up in the championship standings. I’m also pleased that Mark has recovered so quickly from his crash last weekend.”
