This weekend Dean Moor nr Workington, Cumbria was the venue for the 3rd round of the ACU British MMX Championship and despite the day being a mixed bag of results, Mark Watson of Anderson ATV still managed to impress all yet again after only 6 races on an ATV.
After installing a new suspension system on the team’s Suzuki LT-R450s, the qualifiers were a case of wait and see. Unfortunately it was not dialled in as well as the team had hoped and Watson and Bunce’s qualifying positions of 18th and 15th meant they had a lot of work ahead of them.
Both riders got off to good starts in Race 1 however a fall by another rider on the first lap caused a bit of a pile up which both Bunce and Watson got caught in. This put them both at the back end of the pack and after some hard riding Bunce finished in 15th and Watson in 16th.
Race 2 saw both riders again get good starts and with a few adjustments made to the suspension, things were looking more promising. Although Watson stalled on the first lap dropping him back to 13th, he rode an aggressive race contending for 2nd place for a large part of it. He eventually finished in 4th. Bunce was having a steady 2nd race until a technical problem hindered him and he finished in 10th.
Watson finished in 6th place overall on the day which puts him in 6th place in the overall standings of the Championship and only 6 points off of being in 3rd place. Bunce left the day in 12th place overall putting him in 14th place in the Championship.
Watson commented, “I was really pleased with race 2. I still lack experience when it comes to different set-ups for different types of tracks but I’m learning. Hopefully next time we can get good results in both races”.
Team Manager, Paul Anderson commented “The day was a bit of a mixed bag, we had a few set-up issues and a technical problem but we are really pleased again with Mark’s (Watson) performance. He is showing tremendous talent and possibly has the potential to go all the way”.
Team Anderson ATV will next be racing at Hawkstone Park in Rd 4 of the ACU British MMX Quad X Championship on 29 June 08.
