The Relentless Suzuki MX squad were back to operating in different counties at the same time again at the weekend, as Lewis Gregory competed in the European MX2 Championship in Portugal and Jamie Law rode closer to home at the British Open Championship at Dean Moor in Cumbria.
At home in Cumbria, Jamie Law made the most of good track conditions to start his weekend off fourth fastest in timed practice. Despite a poor gate in race one, Jamie moved through the field on his RM-Z450 to take second place in race one, just behind Wayne Smith. A better start in race two, saw Jamie battling at the sharp end from the off holding his position despite strong competition to the flag, securing another great second place result, moving him up to sixth in the series standings.
Meanwhile, at the Portuguese circuit near Faro, Lewis Gregory took a little time to get up to speed on Saturday, openly admitting he wasn't as relaxed on the bike as he should be, finishing 18th out of 41 riders in timed practice. But by Sunday morning a more relaxed Lewis was back on form ending the first lap of the race in second position, before a red flag forced a restart.
At the restart Lewis ended the first lap in a lowly 15th place but a determined ride saw the RM-Z250 rider move swiftly through the field to sixth place before a small error while challenging for fifth, saw him drop back briefly before eventually battling back to 11th at the flag. In race two, Lewis battled from a slow start, setting blistering pace through the field to bring it home in fifth, making him the sixth highest point scorer on the day.
Speaking from Portugal, team manager Rob Hooper commented, "I was disappointed for Lewis in race one, but he demonstrated his maturity as a rider, and just got his head down and got on with the job. He is getting faster every week and the current training regime is certainly paying off. Jamie really pulled it out of the bag at Dean Moor. I am so pleased for him, and this result demonstrates what he is really capable of. The only disappointment this weekend was that I couldn't be in two places at the same time."
