Richie Worrall update
Jul 2007
2007 BYMX National championship, round six - Leuchars, Scotland, July 28/29
Richie Worrall took second place overall to maintain his position near the top of the points table at last weekend's penultimate round of the BYMX Nationals at Leuchars in Scotland.
The 15-year-old won Saturday's opening moto with ease, grabbing the holeshot on his Suzuki RM85 and increasing the distance between him and the rest of the field throughout the race. Richie took the holeshot once more in the second outing but had to settle for second place at the flag.
To ensure a first overall, two race wins were required during Sunday’s races. However this was to proved to be more difficult, as a bad start to the weekend's third moto left Richie struggling to get back on terms with the leaders and he had to be content with a 12th place finish. He was back on the podium in race four, however, with a strong second place.
"I had a really good weekend, even with that 12th place in race three," said Worrall afterwards. "I'm still second in the championship and looking forward to the last round at Hawkstone Park."
That final round doesn't take place until 6-7 October but Worrall will be in action again this weekend (4-5 August) at Mildenhall in Suffolk for round three of the Elite Youth Cup in which he is just two points off the championship lead.
Good luck!
