A GLOBAL WEEKEND OF SUCCESS

Jul 2007

The Suzuki factory in Japan had a weekend to be proud of this week, as its teams and riders across the globe flew the flag in triumphant style, taking race wins and podiums across the board.

In the premier class, Rizla Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen gave fans something to cheer about, as he stalked championship leader Casey Stoner throughout the American Grand Prix, bringing his GSV-R home to a strong second place finish . Keen to impress, Chris pleased fans once more at Laguna Seca by confirming he has re-signed with Rizla Suzuki for 2008.

With the AMA Championship joining Moto GP as a support race at the American Grand Prix, Yoshimura Suzuki rider Ben Spies continued his domination of the series, leading every lap of the race to take the win, ahead of team-mate Matt Mladin and fellow Suzuki rider Aaron Yates, to make an all-Suzuki podium.

In the Czech Republic, the Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra World Superbike team of Max Biaggi and Yukio Kagayama put on a strong fight through both races , with Max taking a close second place in race one and going one better with a win ahead of James Toseland in race two. Team-mate Yukio joined Max on the podium in race one, but crashed out in the final race of the day.

In World Superstock, Xavier Simeon took his Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra GSX-R1000 to his first win , beating Balloco and Corti in the 12-lap race.

Back in the UK at Mallory Park, and under difficult circumstances that saw practice and qualifying abandoned due to torrential rain, the Rizla Suzuki British Superbike squad put on a strong ride with Chris Walker finishing race-one just off the podium in fourth and Crutchlow settling for ninth. A red flagged race-two saw Cal Crutchlow’s battle for third turn into a very solid fifth place result with team-mate Walker behind in sixth.

And in the Supersport class at Mallory Park, the Relentless Suzuki by TAS team continued their winning form, with yet another one-two . Michael Laverty took the win on-board his GSX-R600, with team-mate Ian Lowry following him home to second position, consolidating their first and second positions in the championship standings.
