LOWRY HEADS GSX-R WILDCARD ASSAULT AT SILVERSTONE
May 2007
Fresh from his maiden British Supersport win at Snetterton last Sunday, Ian Lowry heads the wildcard entry list for this weekend’s third round of the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup which will support the World Superbike championship event at Silverstone, GB (25-27 May).
Ulsterman Lowry, 20, is no stranger to the series, having competed as a wildcard in the final 2006 round at Magny-Cours in France last October, where he finished an impressive fifth and set the fastest lap.
The Relentless Suzuki rider will line up with Lee Hodge and Jay Dunn, who sit at the top of the current Suzuki GSX-R Trophy standings – the UK’s leading one-make series run on Suzuki GSX-R600s.
Completing the British wildcard line-up at the Northamptonshire circuit are Pete Ward and Alastair Fagan, who will be representing two of the UK's leading motorcycle publications.
Along with Suzuki GB’s two permanent GSX-R Cup riders, Alex Camier – brother of British Superbike sensation Leon – and Scotland’s Jimmy Storrar, the five wildcards will contest two qualifying sessions before Sunday’s race, which is scheduled to run just before the second World Superbike race at Silverstone.
“It’s a great wee series,” said Lowry, “and I can’t wait to get on Suzuki’s GSX-R750 again. I had a lot of fun last year at Magny-Cours but it was my first time there. I know Silverstone a little better and, with the win last weekend, my confidence is high.”
