GSX-R1000 - THE FASTEST ROAD RACING SUPERBIKE ON THE PLANET

Suzuki's GSX-R1000 became the fastest road racing Superbike on the planet earlier this month, as Relentless Suzuki by TAS racer, Bruce Anstey, recorded an astonishing 133.977mph average lap speed in the final race of the Ulster Grand Prix.

Riding in the prestigious event that uses the closed-off roads around Dundrod in Northern Ireland, Anstey bravely piloted the GSX-R1000 around the 7.4 mile circuit, smashing the previous record in front of a 30,000 strong-crowd.

Talking about his amazing lap record, London-based Kiwi, Bruce, said, "I knew the Relentless Suzuki by TAS GSX-R1000 was fast, but even I didn't think we could go this quickly. We finished second in the opening race which was a little disappointing, so I got my head down in the final Superbike race and pushed as hard as I could. It was a close battle, but we took the win and proved that the GSX-R1000 is the fastest, which is especially nice during the 25th anniversary year".

The Relentless Suzuki by TAS GSX-R1000 that Bruce rode to victory, is a race-prepared version of the GSX-R1000 that can be bought from any authorised Suzuki dealer, for a recommended retail of £10,724 on the road. Featuring race-bred technology that includes a powerful 182BHP engine with adjustable engine mapping and an agile chassis with technical advances like Showa Big Piston Forks, the 2010 GSX-R1000 brings race pedigree to the masses.

SUN SHINES ON GSX-R CELEBRATION AT BRANDS HATCH

The weekend of celebrations for the GSX-R came to a close under sunny skies at the Brands Hatch British Superbike Festival this afternoon as Suzuki celebrated the iconic sportbike's 25th anniversary.

With Relentless Suzuki by TAS's Alastair Seeley taking his debut victory in British Superbikes on the Saturday, Suzuki's race teams were again showing the GSX-R is still a leader of the BSB pack. Meanwhile Spanish MotoGP sensation Alvaro Bautista and three-times BSB champ John Reynolds wowed the crowds with their demonstration laps on the impressive GSV-R800 MotoGP bikes, laps shared with the Alstare World SBK duo of Leon Haslam and Sylvain Guintoli on their GSX-R1000's.

Fans also got to see the Suzuki BSB historical display, including John Reynolds' championship winning Rizla Suzuki, Chris Walker's GSX-R750 and Tom Sykes' 2008 Rizla Suzuki, at the Suzuki BSB hospitality unit, where on Saturday those holding Suzuki ignition keys were invited in for some refreshments. As well, nearly 200 guests sat down for food and entertainments.

Tripple BSB Champ, John Reynolds: "This weekend has been a dream come true. I got to ride the MotoGP bike and frankly it's unbelievable – I've never ridden anything like it my life. It's a noisy violent animal, yet it's surprisingly tractable, you can safely take to the edge of its tyres but once you get it upright it goes from 8 to 18,000rpm in fractions of a second – it's just so quick!"

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team manager, Paul Denning: "It's been a great weekend here, I've had a chance to catch up with all the BSB guys and I've had the pleasure of bringing the MotoGP bike along for the fans to enjoy.

"It's been great to share in the GSX-R celebrations as well. The GSX-R means so much to me, both as a dealer because it transformed our business and personally as the GSX-R has given me so many amazing biking memories, even today I still ride my own GSX-R1000 regularly – I've done three or four track days already this year and in June I took it for my first lap of the Isle of Man TT circuit."

With the third round of the British Superbike Championship (BSB) creating another weekend of GSX-R podium domination at Oulton Park over the May bank holiday weekend, and Leon Haslam remaining series leader in the World Superbike Championship, Suzuki is pleased to maintain its unblemished record this season, leading all major championships from the beginning of the year.

As the Relentless Suzuki by TAS team took their first Superbike win with Michael Laverty at Oulton Park, Worx Suzuki rider Tommy Hill continued to extend his BSB championship lead ending the event with a solid 51 advantage over his nearest rival, while Laverty and teammate Alastair Seeley join Hill inside the top-five of the series standings.

WIth GSX-R1000s leading the way in BSB, it couldn't be a better start the iconic GSX-R range's 25th anniversary, as the domination continues in America and on the world stage too.

In AMA Jake Zemke holds a slightly narrower lead for the Michael Jordan Motorsports team, but crucially heads a Suzuki top three lock-out in the series standings with Tommy Hayden just three points behind and teammate Blake Young trailing Zemke by just 15 points in the series standings.

On the world stage, Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam has been the man to beat from the very first round of the series. Challenging and taking race wins from the first race at Philip Island in Australia, no other rider has been so consistent, giving Haslam a three point advantage over Max Biaggi after four rounds of the series.

WIth BSB back at Cadwell Park on 23rd May, AMA visiting Infineon Raceway on 15th and 16th May and World Superbike back out at Kylami in South Africa on 16th May, the teams and riders will be doing their utmost to keep GSX-R at the front of the pack and at the top of the series standings.

HASLAM INCREASES WORLD SUPERBIKE LEAD AT ASSEN

Team Suzuki Alstare rider Leon Haslam recovered from a disappointing 11th place in race one of the Assen World Superbike fourth round in Holland today to take runner-up spot in race two and extend his World Championship lead.

His main rivals - Max Biaggi (Aprilia) and Noriyuki Haga (Ducati) - were unable to fully-capitalise on his lower-than-normal placing in the opener and Biaggi now trails the GSX-R1000-mounted Briton by 20 points.

Haslam's position in the first race was a result of a loss of air pressure in his front tyre which meant he couldn't push hard at all: At first he thought it was a brake problem, but he kept going and collected five valuable Championship points. Jonathan Rea (Honda) won the race, with fellow Britons James Toseland (Yamaha) and Leon Camier (Aprilia) second and third.

Race two was an absolute scorcher - one of the best in World Superbike history: Rea won it, but only after the 'Mother of Battles' with Haslam, Troy Corser and Toseland, which saw plenty of close contact involving elbows and handlebars.

As Haslam celebrated extending his lead in the series, it was not such a good day for team mate Sylvain Guintoli: The Frenchman hardly recovered from his position in qualifying and never found his rhythm in either of today's 22-lap races, finishing 14th in race one and 13th in race two.

 Leon Haslam - Race 1: 11th, Race 2: 2nd:

"Today was very, very hard, but I am happy because I have extended my lead in the series. In race one I had a problem with the front end and was struggling in 16th after five laps. I wasn't sure if it was a brake problem, but when the bike was checked over after the race, the team discovered that air had escaped from the front tyre. It was a real struggle to keep going especially when I was with a couple of other riders, but I was determined to bring the bike home one way or another. The team changed the front discs and pads - in case they were part of the problem - for race two and I was able to do a normal race. It was a fantastic race, with plenty of close contact. Elbows were everywhere and we were close enough to touch each other's handlebars. It was very hard, but fair, and we all enjoyed it a lot. It must have been great for the fans and of course, having both podiums filled by Brits was also great."

 Sylvain Guintoli - Race 1: 14th, Race 2: 13th:

"This was a weekend to forget and I don't really even want to think about it anymore. It didn't start well and never really improved, although it did get a bit better yesterday and I might have been able to rescue something if I had managed to find my rhythm today. But I didn't, and having a problem with another rider in race two didn't help either: I'm not sure if it was Sykes or Lanzi but there was an impact and that affected the steering of my bike. I was lucky not to crash but I thought I might as well keep going and see what happened. The steering felt strange and I just couldn't push any harder. I think it's better I forget today and start thinking about the next race in Monza, because that is something positive."

 World Superbike results:

 Race 1: 1 Jonathan Rea (GBR-Honda), 2 James Toseland (GBR-Yamaha), 3 Leon Camier (GBR-Aprilia), 4 Carlos Checa (ESP-Ducati), 5 Troy Corser (AUS-BMW), 6 Max Biaggi (ITA-Aprilia). 11 Leon Haslam (GBR-Suzuki Alstare). 14 Sylvain Guintoli (FRA-Suzuki Alstare).

 Race 2: 1 Rea, 2 Leon Haslam (GBR-Suzuki Alstare), 3 Toseland, 4 Biaggi, 5 Troy Corser (AUS-BMW Motorrad Motorsport), 6 Checa. 13 Sylvain Guintoli (FRA-Suzuki Alstare).

 Championship points: 1 Leon Haslam (GBR-Suzuki Alstare) 148, 2 Biaggi 128, 3 Rea 110, 4 Checa 103, 5 Toseland 86, 6 Haga 85, 7 Troy Corser (AUS-BMW Motorrad Motorsport) 68, 8 Sylvain Guintoli (FRA-Suzuki Alstare) 55.

HASLAM INCREASES WSBK LEAD WITH VALENCIA VICTORY

Team Suzuki Alstare rider Leon Haslam stormed his way to victory in the first World Superbike Championship race at Valencia today and then followed it up with a hard-fought-for fourth in the second which increased his series lead to 18 points after three rounds.

But for braking problems in race two, Haslam would have been on course for another podium and an even bigger Championship lead.

In race one, team-mate Sylvain Guintoli was forced to take to the run-off area at the end of the back straight in order to avoid Leon Camier's crash and lost several places as he regained the track. In the end, he finished ninth. In the second race - run in two parts, because of a crash and subsequent red flag - Guintoli improved his position to finish sixth.

Behind Haslam in race one was Max Biaggi (Aprilia) James Toseland (Yamaha), with Troy Corser (BMW) fourth. The second race was won by Noriyuki Haga (Ducati) with Carlos Checa (Ducati) second and Biaggi third.

 Leon Haslam - Race 1: 1st, Race 2: 4th:

"I made a reasonable start and was fourth at the end of the lap one and then just worked my way up to first by lap five. Once I was in the lead, I realised that the pace was not great and it all felt pretty easy for me. I expected that I would come under attack, but my Pit board signals showed that my lead was increasing! I kept a good pace and felt comfortable enough to ease the pace at the end.

"We made some small changes to the bike for race two - because of the hotter conditions - and managed to pass about five riders quite quickly despite not making a very good start. Then the race was stopped and we had to start again. We put a bit more preload on the front, but I began having brake problems before too long. The lever kept coming all the way back to the bar and that meant I couldn't be close to other riders and then pull out and pass them. I didn't feel confident braking and after three or four laps I was praying that the race would come to an end or that somebody in front would stop and I would get another podium. I am happy to be leading the series; delighted that I have increased the lead; and really looking forward to Assen - a circuit where I think our bike will go really well."

 Sylvain Guintoli - Race 1: 9th, Race 2: 6th:

"I made a good start in race one and everything was going according to plan until Camier crashed right in front of me! I had to take to the run-off area to avoid hitting him or the bike and then had to do a bit of a three-point turn to get back on the track and that cost me time and places. I had fallen to 14th - from sixth - but had some good battles before finally finishing ninth.

"We didn't make any changes to the bike for race two, but the hotter temperature meant that the tyres didn't work as well as they had done in race one and I had many slides. Sixth was not so bad, but I'm not happy because I think we can do better. I feel better here than I did in Portimao because I have got my rhythm back. Now we just have to keep on progressing and improving and, with a little bit of luck, the results will come."

 Valencia WSBK Results:

 Race 1: 1 Leon Haslam (GBR-Suzuki Alstare), 2 Biaggi (ITA-Aprilia), 3 Toseland (GBR-Yamaha), 4 Corser (AUS-BMW), 5 Haga (JPN-Ducati), 6 Rea (GBR-Honda). 9 Sylvain Guintoli (FRA-Suzuki Alstare).

 Race 2: 1 Haga, 2 Checa (ESP-Ducati), 3 Biaggi, 4 Leon Haslam (GBR-Suzuki Alstare), 5 Rea, 6 Sylvain Guintoli (FRA-Suzuki Alstare).

 Championship Points (after 3 rounds): 1 Leon Haslam (GBR-Suzuki Alstare) 110, 2 Biaggiiiii 89, 3 Checa 60, 4 Haga 54, 5 Rea 49, 6 Fabrizio. 9 Sylvain Guintoli (FRA-Suzuki Alstare) 40.
